Default Rear main seal question?

Im in the process of replacing my clutch and have read that I should replace my rear main seal while I have the flywheel off.
Ive been looking at it and it looks simple as hell to replace, but do i need to loosen the pan or can I just pop the old one out and tap the new one in?
The back of my oil pan where it meets the tranny is totally bone dry and I thought farg replacing rear main seal!
But after totally looking at it, if it were to leak, it would leak into clutch area and sure enough I have oil residue on the back side of block plate!
So I wanna do this and do this right!
Because of the economy and weather this truck has been on jackstands since february!!! so im kinda gettin tired of looking at it and not driving it! lol

Its a simple change out and there is no need to drop the pan and it only cost bout 20 bucks. 20 bucks is cheap insurance to having to replace a new oil soaked clutch.u just pull the old 1 out with a pick and tap the new 1 back in.It is a 1 piece all rubber seal so be carefull taping on it.It does not have a steel ring to it like a wheel seal.
