Question 3.0 misfires after timming plz help

Hello, any help would be apprciated. My sons truck died on the road. I first replaced fuel filter, then distributer cap and rotor, replaced spark plugs and wires, and new coil. tested ignition module (good). put in a new distributer and walah, it started right up. I believe it ended up being the pick-up coil. althouh the gear was shot at the bottom of the distributor. Ok started great, but timming is my next issue. I pull the plug on the wires by the ignition module. set to 10. runs ok, then when I put the plug back, it tries to fine tune itself and starts backfiring. did this a number of times and am stumped. smells of fuel like its running rich. Has plenty of pressure at the inline valve by the regulator. there are no warning lights on. plz help.thank you.

Year of the truck?

Since you said Distributor, i'm guessing before 96. So you're saying when you re-insert the plug it starts to backfire? Which cylinder's plug is it?

thanks for replying. It begins backfiring when trying to fine tune itself after reinstalling the connector plug back in by the ignition module. (sorry I cannot think what its called) I cannot tell which cylinder is misfiring for sure. with the timming light you can see it adjusting itself. without that plug it runs better

it is a 96. I read in another post to diconnect the battery to reset the computer, tried that leftit unhooked for a couple of hours, and no change. whith that plug (maybe called a spout?) plugged in it just starts to randomly "pop" or misfire, if that dicription helps any. Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.

Hmmm, kinda sounds like the ignition module is sending faulty signals to the engine.

You said the module tested out okay, correct? Have you taken a look at the wiring around the module?
