its not if they spin free its if one some how broke or something, but 99% sure its just that your belt tensioner wore out, not the pulley on it, but the spring loaded part of it, it wasnt able to keep the belt tight probably... go to vatozone and get a new tensioner

Your a/c will spin freely bc the clutch isn't engaged

Took pictures

That pulley felt loose to me, thats the a/c one?

The belt was tangled up down there when I found it.

Thats what I meant by Oil being everywhere. It all looks like that, more of a light coating of Oil. Over everything.

Is this what was meant by the power steering fluid everywhere, its on the battery too.
Power steering was full though, and brown. :S

----------

How do I find out for sure? Trying to save as much money as possible.
And thanks for letting me know the A/C is supposed to spin freely.

pull on the tensioner and see how springy it is basically, if the truck has a lot of miles and hasnt been changed it should be changed anyways to prevent things like this. but buy one from vatozone or wherever and compare them, if its no different then take it back.

Don't think its going to move if you just spin the pulley. Need to see if it would still relieve or apply tension to the belt. You could try just pushing down on the arm to see if it moves. If that doesn't work, just use a ratchet and the correct size socket for the bolt which holds the pulley onto the tensioner assembly and try to turn the bolt clockwise in the same way you would if you were relieving tension to remove or install the belt. If it doesn't move when you do that, then the tensioner is frozen and needs to be replaced. That should keep the belt on. I would also buy a new belt since the old one could potentially have oil/PS fluid on it.

99% positicve my tension pulley is alright,
RAther positive I've found the cause. Water Pump Pulley has about an inch of total movement from side to side. I did indeed plan on buying a new belt, when I found out what was wrong with it. Think it could be the Water Pump Bearing/Pulley since it does have some play there?
The tensioner moved as normal while trying to put belt back on, Trying to do that now, but its hard to get it up over the tensioner while doing it by myself.

Nevermind. Figured it all out. Put the belt back on, started the truck up and all of a sudden there was a loud grinding type sound, and I look at the engine, There I see a wobbly fan clutch in front of me.
Water Pump is out,,, again. Taking it off tonight and replacing tomorrow when I can get to the part store.

I don't really see how your water pump pulley having play in it could cause the belt to come off? Unless it wobbles front to back, almost throwing it off? Unless it sprayed oil all over everything first, then the belt slipped off because it had oil all over it. Get the belt back on there, start it up, watch the belt to see if it stays on or slips off.

NVM... just read your last post. Glad you got it figured out.

Haha, Yeah.
Thanks. Any sites on helping show me how to remove the water pump?
I know that I have to drain coolant
Take off fan clutch
Take off belt
Loosen A/C and Powersteering Pump Mount
Take off Waterpump
And reverse?
In a very basic overview. Right?

Hi, My belt fell off yesterday while I was 30k into the bush..I had a friend with a trailer that towed the truck home. I immediately shut the truck off when I lost steering and battery light came on. I just changed the tensioner pulley, idler pulley and belt last week. I did notice some play in my power steering pump pulley. (Forward and back motion) What would you guys suggest? Any ideas would be great! Thanks!
