I think that stepson misread the gauge. In any event, I was still doing research & found on a post # 25768 on 02/03/11 (I think) FordRanger4x4 had posted to someone else:
"Could be a bad temp. sending unit. The one the computer reads. Try unplugging the maf
sensor and see if it starts."
So I tried that trick & it fired right up.
I then did a fast search & found a link to tell me to Disconnect neg battery, unplug sensor, carefully remove the MAF
sensor & clean with contact cleaner spray or brake klean. Did that, let it dry, reinstalled sensor, plugged back in then reconnect battery. All is good!
Just wanted to post back in case someone else has the same problem as this and found a simple fix.
