sorry to say ranger do not have great torque try a good service or an new air intake filter. however if this happened just over a period of time and has higher that normal fuel usage it may be a problem with the air flow meter.

A friend of mine had a ranger with a 3.0 and sorry to say, it is probably the worst engine option in those trucks. however. With a simple K&N intake system, and a Gibson Cat-back exhaust system it actually made a world of difference in his truck. i would recommend starting with those modifications. there may be more out there for the 3.0.

I had that same motor in my 2000 Ranger. It was okay, it will run forever I will say that. I installed a cat back and it helped just a bit, I just liked the sound of the exhaust. A cold air intake will help a bit too but don't expect a huge gain.

get a good airfilter and gibson cat back. then get a programmer, the truck will really wake up. don't want your money on a MAS unless you have motor work done.

302 that bad larry!! if it is weak from the factory and only has 9000 miles i would say take it to the dealership and say wtf. my 95 had a buttload of torque and hp ,plenty enough to do what i wanted.

Default Sorry

The 3.o is bulletproof but don't expect much performance.... its an old school, dreadfully simple pushrod motor. I know people who have turbocharged it though with good results

well its a misconception that the 3.0 is powerless. it has lots of power that just needs to be unlocked. throw a short ram air (cold air pipes actually create warmer air than stock) on there, some msd 8.8mm wires and ngk v-power plugs, flowmaster/gibson/magnaflow exhaust, performance chip (superchip, JET, X-Cal, Bama). I gained 17hp and 16tq to the rear wheels with my superchip flashpaq. try that and your truck should definitely have some more go. i have no problem keepin up to my friends stock 4.0's.

exhuast, tuner, pullies, gears, intake, internals there are a bunch of little things you can do to get the most out of your 3.0

I have beat a supercharged 3.0 with my stock 4.0. You can spend all the money you want on it but in the end it would give back much. Just drive it and enjoy the MPG.
