autozone told me i need egr valve, getting many parts off of a 4.0 but is a 4.0 egr valve going to fit a 3.0. they said yes but i still dont think so.

Why did they say you need one? What was the code specifically?

Theres 3 parts to the EGR system (plus vacuum lines). The EGR valve, a solenoid, and the silver rectangular box (EPDM or something like that). That's usually what causes EGR codes. Usually something like too low EGR circ, or too much.

I had it on my truck. Replaced the silver box with one from an updated black one from a junkyard Ranger 3.0. Code's been gone for almost a week now.

they said the code was controls/emissions. and asked if i had bad gas mileage, which i suddenly do, and thats when they said it needed to be replaced

I'd probably want to know the specific code before starting to throw parts at it. It very well may be the EGR, but I'd want more to go on before swapping parts.

No idea if the 4.0 parts are the same. They very well may be if you can compare the 2 and they look identical.. Then I'd say yes.

But again..Depending on the code - it may not be your problem. The people working at Autozone have no idea. They just tell you to buy whatever sensor is mentioned in the code. It's not that simple. I would get the specific code and research it yourself before swapping parts.
