Truck won't Re-Start hot...but will start hours later? WTF?
Drove 25 minutes, stopped off at a store. Got back in the truck after 5 minutes and it cranks, starts to almost catch, then sputters and dies.
All fuses checked good. Hammering the tank / fuel pump did not help.
1 year old plugs, wires, PCV, fuel and air filter. Gas gauge read 1/8 of a tank. I can not hear ANY fuel pump noise when turning the key to "ON". After sitting for 3 hours, the truck fired right up.
Please note, a week ago I cleaned the IAC with throttle body cleaner and found no gasket in place, so I allowed the IAC to dry, and re-installed with a gasket.
ANY IDEAS as to what went wrong?
Thanks

Has this happened before, or happened again? Sounds like a fuel delivery issue of some sort.

It does sound like a fuel delivery issue. It could be caused by a fuel line getting to hot, creating vapor in your lines (not likely but I have seen it), or the fuel pump might be dying, over heats itself and then won't want to work. I'd try changing the fuel filter as well even though it is not that old.

Thanks guys
Do Ranger fuel pumps make noise? My 93 Mustang's pump is noisey as hell when turning the key to "ON". My Ranger's pump is COMPLETELY silent.

Um mine makes a whirring noise, thing is, if it were your pump it normally restarts just fine, its initial start up that it sucks. Although it could be the pump is worn out, so as it heats up it goes out of tolerance, the suction from the engine pulls fuel through and the pump has to much internal clearance, so when you shut it off till it cools off it won't do anything

Re: Truck won't Re-Start hot...but will start hours later? WTF?
I guess a fuel pressure check (with a gauge) would check the pump's performance?
Guys my Hane's book says the coil pack could be the culprit? Is that likely?

It honestly wouldn't suprise me if that is what it was either. Do a fuel pressure test as well. You might want to go ahead and do coil packs to wires.

coil pack is possible......but fuel issue more likely....... next time it happens spray starter fluid into the TB and see if it fires and or check for spark at that time........i doubt this is it but check your air-filter and air intake.....
is your CEL working.......any codes .....even pending codes

CEL is working.
Have not checked for codes.
I mentioned that I cleaned the IAC a few weeks ago - the screws were able to be tightened last night, I wonder if that may have been the reason. I'm still worried that the fuel pump is silent....and Advance Auto wants $239 for their bottom-of-the-line replacement

"Borrow" a fuel pressure gauge from Autozone or you can buy one from harbor freight for $20. Like I said, next time it happens spray starter fluid into the TB If it fires up it is fuel related

I had exactly the same problem about a month ago. I ended up replacing the IAC and everything has run fine ever since

Had a similar issue with my Mustang. Bad coil.
