Default Cam sensor/shaft replacement...How do I know it needs it?

So I'm not gleaning the exact symptoms that are the indicators for a replacement being necessary. I've read the threads on here that refer to the cam pos sensor/shaft needing to be replaced, and the "chirp of death" threads. Maybe age has done my mind in finally (LOL, but I'm not getting the actual symptoms. My 2008 has a chirping from the back of the motor when it is first fired up and is cold. I doesn't seem to persist after the motor is warm. So would someone that has been through the PITA of the sensor issue explain it for me please? I'd rather get this (New to me) thing in to the shop and drop $200 (?? more or less ??) on repairs than have the motor fragged from an oil pump crapping out. Sorry to newb it up here, but what i'm reading just isn't making me comfortable about replacement or not. Thanks in advance!

Well from the sounds on youtube, I'm not tusre that the CPS is what I'm hearing on my truck. at 53k I wouldn't think that I'd be hearing this little b1tch fail yet, but we'll see.
This video from youtube may help any other newbs that show here with the CPS issues.

Unfortunately, the cam sync costs a pretty penny for most people. But a new engine costs way more than the cam sync. If you can tell that the squeak is coming from the rear, than you're better off spending the money and replacing it, just for piece of mind. It's waaayyy too risky to second guess something that can be so serious.
