Default Throttle Body help...

For some reason the throttle body tends to stick open. I noticed it last night when I changed gears and the tach reved up on its own. I've tried changing the throttle cables, I've greased the butterfly after cleaning it with WD40 and it still tends to stick open. I guess the only thing left is to change the throttle body itself. Any help with this would be kool because I'm stumped on this one.

More likely the IAC is fucked up. That's what controls your RPM at idle. The throttle plate is just big spring loaded piece of metal that shuts. Have you actually looked in the throttle body and seen it getting stuck open?

is it sticking, when operating manually? by hand or foot with vehicle off? or is it surging while running?

Have you tried adjusting the stop for the throttle butterfly ( the piece that hits the small plate to stop the butterfly from closing )? ...mine had a small divot worn in it and about a quarter turn w/ a pair of pliers fixed the problem... what was happening is due to the divot in the plate it strikes the butterfly was closing too far causing the butterfly to be the cause of the sticking

.....just noticed you said sticking OPEN .... oops

yes, I have looked but it didn't seem to be any problems with it that could see without taking it apart.

Only while driving is when it seems to stick and very seldom does it stick while idling. It sticks mainly while I'm in 2nd going to 3rd.

That's ok. I checked everything at least twice. The WD40 seemed to help alot so I'll try it again tomorrow and give you guys an update when I can. Thanks you guys it's greatly appreciated. The first engine I had done this and I ended up getting a new throttle body from ford to fix it.

Is it dropping to idle then reving up? Or is it staying at high rpm when you let off the pedal?

It goes higher in rpms when the clutch is pushed while I'm going from 2nd to 3rd, but not much. It goes up for a little then just hangs there until I release the clutch.

Yes I did but must reword it a bit. It hangs while shifting. Watch next post please.

----------

So as I said last night I would take a little WD40 and clean it some more today. While I was letting the WD40 soak in a bit I decided to check things out. Turns out from where I had new plugs and plug wires installed they didn't completely connect all of the wires to the ignition coil which I promptly took care of. The I checked the plug wires connections to each plug and found that they weren't fully connected either. I also found a piece of debris holding the butterfly partially open and it was filthy. After wiping out the excess WD40 with a paper towel I took it for a test drive and everything seems to be alright now. THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR INFO IT WAS A BIG HELP AND IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
