Default Finally read engine check light.

I changed fuse and it works perfectly.
The reader gave me three code which are p0401 p0402 p1400.
All of the codes are talk about EGR.
The guy at Autozone asked me to change EGR cost around 49.99.
Should I change it or clean it???
I searched this EGR thing in forum and swap the egr could not be a solution right?? I've driving around 500 miles with this last for a week.
(I had to travel Ok to AR four times.)
Please give a advice and I will follow it.
Thanks ya'll!!

I would try the DPFE sensor, it reads the action of the the EGR and tells the PCm if it is working. Seen this allot at the Ford Dealer i worked at people would come in with a new egr valve that the parts store sold them ant it was the sensor. also there are two hoses that attached to the dpfe sensor and can some times deteriorate and give a false reading. Its fairly simple to replace and is usually the problem with p0401 and p0402.

Thank you so much for your answer.
I've been another Autozone and one of the employee there recommend me to clean the EGR first. So, I try to disconnect EGR but I don't have spanner then couldn't completed removed. I am going to clean first.
Do you know when can I have a disconection manual for EGR and two valves? Or should I just visit the Ford dealer? I try not to spend lots of money on it lol. Thank you so much!!

u can look for a how to remove egr valve on this site, i still believe that your issue is going to be the dpfe sensor not just cleaning, but if u do decide to take it off be careful the two bolts that hold it on can be a little tough and rusted also once its off do not damage the rubber valve, it can be seen from the top if it is punctured it will not allow the egr to operate, also remember there is a gasket between the egr and the intake where it recycles exhaust gasses. the DPFE sensor is in a separate place from the egr.

You can test the EGR very easily.
1. there is a vacuum line attached to the top of the egr. disconnect it.
OK now if you have a tool that will apply vacuum use it here.
2. apply vacuum to the egr valve while the engine is running the engine should start to misfire and possibly stall. if it does this this is good the egr is working and is not plugged up. if it doesn't than the egr needs cleaned or the the valve itself needs replaced.

if you don't have a tool to apply vacuum than you can use the vacuum line that goes to the Fuel regulator it has vacuum all the time. attach it to the egr and it should almost stall.
i hope this helps i could not fully understand your ?

I gave a great thanks to you!!
It is great information that I can try.
Actually, I do not have a tool for vacuum.
I try to remove valve and two bolts was easy to remove but not a bottom part. (I do not have a spanner) I should study the term of parts first lol.
I will try your way!
And What If the sensor is problem, should I go to ford dealer instead of part shop?? Thank you so much!

U can try the parts store first if they have it it will be cheaper other wise it may be ford dealer part only. also while your at the parts house u can get an adjustable wrench or if they will let you borrow the correct size wrench for the lower egr nut. if you decide to take the egr off i recommend that when u are putting it back on you start the lower nut first before the egr is completely attached to the intake it can sometimes be a bear to start after it is secured to intake.

I also recommend if you replace the DPFE sensor you also replace the two hoses that attach to it and thats also an easy way to find the DPFE sensor. the two hoses that you will replace come off the tube that attach to the lower portion of the egr valve and go to the sensor.

i hope i have not confused you any more. follow this link to help.

I have the same problem. Last year, I changed the EGR valve and DPFE sensor and it went off. 15 months later, its back on. I put a new DPFE sensor on and hoping it doesn't come back on again. On some other forums, they said they had to change the sensor about every year. Why is this happening???

I'm not real sure, it may be a cheap made sensor not handling the heat from the egr tube. it is unfortunate egr is not a running component its all about emissions.

I do not know why they made this so weak..
I though that I solve the problem through clean the EGR but it was not.
It was ok few days lol. Is DPFE sensor near battery and fuse area??
I think I need to change it.. Thank you for your advice!

1. find the egr tube, this is the tube you disconnected from the bottom of the egr valve. on the tube there will be two black hoses coming of the tube. Ok follow the two black hoses to the dpfe sensor.
as i suggested in an earlier thread i would replace these hoses with the DPFE sensor. These are special made hoses to handle the heat from exhaust get them from your ford dealer. one hose has a bigger inside diameter than the other. i believe the sensor is attached to the intake using 2, 7 or 8 mm bolts. its either black or grey and should be rectangle about 2inch 4 inch.
2. The dpfe sensor is also called the pressure feedback sensor.
3. if you have a 3.0 lL its right next to the IAC ( idle air control valve)
4. on the drivers side of the engine.
