Default p0401 p0402 EGR codes..

I have a '95 Ranger with 3.0 auto.

I got a P0402 code a couple weeks ago. Doing some research online - it's usually the silver box mounted to the upper intake (DPFE sensor). So I grabbed another one of those for $5 at the local pick n pull. Installed it, and got a p0401 code.

The truck will also sometimes want to stall when it's cold, when accelerating. It's usually not that bad. The truck is very drivable like this, but obviously I still want to fix it.

Is it possible I got 2 bad DPFE sensors? Both had a bunch of crud/white build up on the hoses.

Also, I had the EGR off recently and it looked good and clean. All vacuum lines are hooked up properly and look good.

The only thing I can think to do next is go back to the junkyard and buy another DPFE sensor, but this time also grab an EGR solenoid and EGR valve incase it's one of those. I'd like to get the parts new, but many people complain about the cheap parts store versions - and new from Ford they would be quite expensive for such an old truck I've already dumped a small fortune into.

Is there a later style DPFE sensor I should look for in the junkyard from another vehicle that works better than this old style that seems to have lots of problems?

Anyone have the same problem and want to let me know how they remedied it?

Thanks for looking.

Actually.. Here, this looks like the new version. I guess they're just black.

Not a bad price either..Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and buy it versus rolling around the junkyard for one..Unless someone knows of an aftermarket version that works correctly.
