Default What's the best performance part for 3.0?

Alright, so I have a 3.0 with air box mod and muffler. That's all I have for performance right now. I want to spend roughly $1,500. What are the best performance parts i can put on....Headers? Tuner? K&N CAI? Just need some good experienced advice to get pointed in the right direction.

i say save the $1,500 and put it into a lift or tires/rims or a locker. 3.0's are not meant to go fast. i have only driven 1 fast ranger in my life and it was a supercharged 3.0 single cab like mine. Actually the only vehicle i have ever driven that actually put my head into the seat. it was nuts!! I say leave the engine alone because once you start boosting the h.p you will be tempted to floor it all the time thus leading to breaking parts. Buts its your money i can't stop you lol

Well I already bought rims and tires I'm just waiting for them to be shipped. I also already have a Fabtech SL in mind. I do more commuting than offroading so i duno about dropping over 2k on just suspension. Long travel eats away a tires right? Thanks for your input man.

are you going to make it a pre-runner? and long travel doesn't always eat your tires away if you do it the right way. All my buds who do the pre-runner things make there own home made long travel kits. And they make it where you can adjust the camburg just by twisting the upper uniball into or out of the upper a-arms. And a SL isn't considered long travel. It just lifts the front up 3inch's. Long travel kicks the wheels way out making you get the pre-runners fenders. It gives you massive travel over stock. Imo i love they way they look but taking it to get to that point is hard work. Especially when you have to replace all 4 a-arms then fabbing up the new shock mounts then getting them to fit because the new coil/overs are dam tall and compressing them is a bitch. And i understand about the commuting part. Thats way i never tore into my ranger to make it a pre-runner because truth is when the hell will i off-road it? once a week if that? then have to wash it then trying to keep it clean is not worth it for a DD. You at least need 2 cars to do the pre-runner project. Because when you jump them they do break lol and taking out your DD and not having a truck to go to work in must suck ass.

I just bought spindles for my truck. I'm going to hold off on the tuner and I'm thinking out adding mid-travel in a year or two. Thanks for your response man!

Just get the tuner. Its only ~$350-$400 and they make actual performance gains. Don't waste your money on a CAI, the factory intake already is one. I don't know crap about exhaust though.

there are no "performance" mods for a 3.0. save your money. the 3.0 is built as a work horse, not a power machine. you can spend that 1500 on parts to make it more powerful, but in the end it's a waste. if you want to do something, make the interior comfortable and put a nice stereo system in it for when you're commuting.
