there is a 3.0 vulcan, which is a pushrod, and there is a 3.0 duratech, which is dohc

ALL 3.0's in Rangers are known as Vulcans. It is a cool name, alot cooler than "Cologne" for the Ranger 4.0.

IIRC, the name of an engine is actually the name of the assembly plant where the engine is produced.

A lot of times, yes, however, the Vulcan got it's name because of it's all-iron design.

Not quit my friend, you're forgetting about the 3.0 Duratech which came out in 2005 (I think it was 2005 the Duratech came out but not really sure).

The first year for the Vulcan was 1986, first for the Yamaha was 1989 and first for the Duratec was 1996. And all 3 were designed for the Taurus.
