MpG's with a 3.0 or 4.0 what is better?

Hey guys im am looking for a daily drive ranger. I can't stand cars and want a secound truck that gets good mpgs and fun to drive. Im looking for 5speed reg or xcab. What engine is going to get me the best mpg? Thanks

the 3.0L will deffinetly get better mpgs but sometimes not by much, it all depends on how you drive. i know people that get 15 mpg in a 3 while i get 19 but thats because i accelerate really slow to get those mpgs. i say get a 4 cylnder manny trans and youll be set!

3.0 gets less then the 4.0

3.0 has about the same power as a 2.3

Drive like a grandpa and not care. Thats how i get 25-28 mpg in my 3.0 with old ass plugs

I'm driving a 3.0 and I get at best 21 mpg when I drive like a complete grandma. (no offense if there are any on here). Driving normally I can get around 18-20 doing mostly highway.

I get an average of around 22mpg city and highway driving with a 3.0. normal driving and I'm sure I could get around 28mpg if I drove like a grandpa. Also the truck is manual so that automatically saves on gas too.

Couple guys on here have newer 2.3 5 speeds and are getting 30-35 mpg That is also watching when the shift and how they take off from a stop.
Blueovalboy was one of them I wanna say DieHard4rd was another and he rigged up the A/C to not run all the time or something. Maybe he will chime in.

My 3.0 5spd gets about 18mpg, and it will smoke my brothers 4.0! Lets see if he"ll chime in on this, lol!

3 weeks 1 day and counting on my 3.0 since last time i filled up and yes i drive everyday

still have a little under a quarter tank.

and not to hurt anybody's feelings but both these v6 motors from brilliant ford are under powered. 207 h.p for a 4.0 is pathetic with only 238 Ft-lb... the new yota's 4.0's DOHC are pushing 270 hp with 278 lb ft torque. Ford still has the same o same o 4.0L sohc since 2001. another example nissan frontier in 2005 4.0L DOHC was available - 261 h.p with 281 lb-ft of torque. But one of my fav numbers is out of the new mustang's 3.7. 305 hp and 280 ft.-lb! now ford you can put that motor in my rig anytime

plus with 19 mpg around town and 31 mpg on the open road. If your after mpg in a ranger the 4bangers are the way to go. if your after power in a ranger well your f-ed. 4.0 i guess is your answer even though its not much for a 4L :/

That is why you mod it to make some more power.

IMO the 4.0 ranger has the power it needs to do any job within it's hauling and towing capabilities.
