Need help with overheating 3.0

Truck runs good and drives good just overheats.T stat is good cap is good.I unhooked the heater core lines and water flows free.Clutch fan seems to pull enough air but spins real easy when truck is off.No water in oil but I have rust looking stuff in Rad and overflow.What ideas do you guys have please.Thanks so much

flush the radiator, thats a good start.

Yeah definitely flush the radiator if it has alot of rust in it. Might need to flush it out a couple of times.

yeah drain all the fluid out then stick a hose in the radiator and turn it on with the valve open, do this for like 10-15 min, make sure the engine isnt warmed up at all.

Year? Engine? What have you done so far? Most overheating cases are caused by a water pump that is going bad.

your water pump is gone,if you see a lot of rust on coolant,thats your waterpump

Ive done T stat and cleaned rad a time or two.No leaks anyplace and with truck running I pull the heater core hose off and water comes out of it,how much should run out of the heater hose when unhooked like this?
Truck runs good and no smoke out exhaust.Its 99 ranger with bout 130K on it and its a 3.0.Thanks guys

Im going to try the cluch fan first 50 bucks.The fan does not put out the air like it should its does when you start the truck but slows way down as the truck runs they overheats

The fan is supposed to free wheel when it's off. And as long as you have some forward motion >20mph, more than enough air flows through the radiator without the fan running at all. Those of us with electric fans can leave them off when the vehicle is motion.

Thanks for help guys.I just put a clutch fan on the truck with new T stat and cap.Can drive the truck fine and hasnt overheated.BUT the truck can idle for 15 or more minutes and not overheat but sometimes it does start to overheat and when it does that all I have to do is hold the rpms at about 2500 for just a few seconds and the temp gauge goes back to normal.Do you guys still think its my waterpump? 130K on the 3.0

I've thought it was the water pump all long. And I still do. That's happening because spinning the failing pump faster lets it push a little more water. Do you believe me yet?

def your waterpump... i kinda had that problem with my 00 3.0 and the waterpump cleared up all the problems..

you shouldve went to the water pump while the fan is off,probably your fan is still working,and wasted 50 bucks for that,
