Default Heater hose tee - for what??

The heater hoses have tees on them with hoses that run to and from the pcv - what in the world for? Is it necessary?

I noticed a nick or something (it's almost like a burn mark but the hose feels ok) on one of the hoses that run from the tee to the pcv, not sure if I need to replace that hose or not - I'm sure that isn't a cheap hose with the tee and what not.

But what is that loop for?

I'd have to drain some coolant out of the system to change that hose, correct?
edit: the reason I ask is, I can't even see the valve on the bottom of the radiator.....

I'm not sure which years/engines, but some coolant passages in the intake manifold. Could that be what you're seeing?

Crankcase vapors contain H2O. The heat from the coolant discourages the formation of ice inside the PCV system.
