Re: Differential / Gears
3.73 are fine and will do the job. I have 3.73 l/s in my lifted ranger running 33 stt's. X2 on being slow from the take off. But it drives just fine. If you dont have the time/money/ambition to change them right away I would not worry about it. On Larger hills I generally have to down shift to 4th. But it runs highway speed all day long. I average 16-18 hwy way driving at 65, the tach reads like 2100 or so. I think its close to a stock truck running like a 3.27. Plow rig had that ratio stock and it was basically the same as my lifted truck. Slow on the take off, but good highway mileage.

but you have a 4.0 Jason, the 3.slow is a turd stock, i couldnt imagine it being able to hold OD at highway speeds with 33's and 3.73's. also, lower rpm's cruising doesnt always mean better MPG's. if the motor struggles to move the truck along at that RPM due to the larger tires you will be burning more fuel than if it was running a little higher RPM but didnt have to work as hard to keep it there. i will always suggest a re-gear after swapping to larger tires after the experience i had after re-gearing my own truck. with my stock 4.10's and 33's my truck drove ok, held OD fine and all but guzzled gas and was a slug from a stop. once i re-geared i realized what i had been missing, my mileage is back up to near stock mileage and power is awesome again. not to mention its better on the drive train. IMO it was one of the best things i did to my truck.
