I bought a 1991 Ranger 3.0 Auto on sat . Drove it for about 25 miles and it ran fine . Car was sitting a while and had about a 1/2 tank of old gas in it . Filled it up and it ran fine . Went out a few hours later and drove about 8 miles and the car spit and sputtered and died . Sounded like it wanted to start and wouldnt . Monday afternoon i tried to start it up and it ran for about 10 mins and cut off and wont restart . Thought it was the fuel filter and replaced it . Still wouldnt start . Tried using some starting fluid and still wouldnt start . Since i just bought it i dont have any background from the former owner . Any suggestions ?

Does your battery have a full charge? Isdoes it sound like it bogs down a lot when it starts? And have you put new fueli in it?

Well it still has a mix of the old gas and the new gas . Battery was at full charge . But now it was drained trying to start . But at the times it does it the batter was good .

sounds to me like what happend when my alternator was loose i would check the belt on it and make sure its nice and tight and if it is take it to a parts store and have them check to make sure its still good

it might be your fuel pump??

****UPDATE**** .... As of now we think we have narrowed it down to the distributor . Its overheating and malfunctioning . Will update after we replace it . Fuel pump seems to be working ok as of now .

That sounds like a fuel filter to me, it would make sense since you said it originally had old gas in it.

***UPDATE***

Truck is finally fixed . Problem ? A short in the wiring leading the the computer . Simple fix and the truck runs great now .
