Default Need help, coolant in the oil

I have a 2000 Ranger 4x4 4.0L OHV engine W/auto trans & 147,000 miles. Yesterday I drove my Ranger to work & was ok, went to leave for home & once it warmed up it ran very hot. I turned on the heat & turned the blower on high & the temp went down a little so I could get it home. While driving it home on acceleration I did notice a little smoke/steam from the exhaust. This morning I checked the radiator & it was low on coolant, pulled the dipstick & the oil is milky so I must have coolant in the oil. I called a repair shop & they said 1 or both of the heads might be cracked. Is this a comon problem with this engine?.

Blown head gaskets can do the same thing.
