2000 Ford Ranger Supercab 2wd 3.0l 5speed mpg's
my truck only gets like 12/16 mpg city/hwy it sucks! according to some sites, i should be getting 16/23! any help with this situation? the truck only has 130k miles. i haven't the slightest clue to why it could be getting such bad gas mileage.

Plugs, plug wires, oil change, PCV check, air filter check, MAF clean, IAC clean, Throttle Body clean, vacuum hose check, fluid check, fuel filter replacement, etc. There's probably a few things I left out, but that's the majority.

I know this is kinda off topic, but what is the best way to calculate your gas mileage, because my 3.0 seems like it is not getting that good of gas mileage too.

Re: 2000 Ford Ranger Supercab 2wd 3.0l 5speed mpg's
I just bought my 2003 ranger 3.0 5 speed 2wd with 3.73. It has 87000 miles with 235/75/r15 setup. I just changed the oil in engine and trans. Drop in K&N air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve, seafoam treatment and spark plugs. I just clocked 22.76 mpg mostly highway at 70 mph. The tank before had mixed city and got 20.13. My plugs at 87000 were worn with .070 gap . I dont even know how it ran when i got it. Keep in mind, driving habits is so critical. Jack rabbit starts and high rpm shift points will influence mpg dramatically. I shift at factory recommended points to maximize mpg. I drive almost 100 miles a day so it is important to get good mpg. Good luck!
Later,
Chris
P.s. My fuel filter was HEAVY even with all the fuel out of it. That likely means it was very clogged.

Re: 2000 Ford Ranger Supercab 2wd 3.0l 5speed mpg's
Is there an all around good online parts store for these trucks? I know about rockauto and the majors but havent found some of the wierd specific parts I have been looking for like my parking brake electrical sensor and a drivers door handle actuator.
I always get nervous just buying parts that I HOPE are for my make and model jsut to pull apart the dashboard or door panel or something and find a completely different part all together.

Re: 2000 Ford Ranger Supercab 2wd 3.0l 5speed mpg's
I also just bought my ranger about 2 weeks ago. Drove it from Iowa to TN and was getting 22.9mpg. I did a plug and wire change when I got home and found the plugs were gapped at 0.98. I mean worn out, never would've imagined that when driving, it ran good. I'm running my first tank of fuel through it with the new plugs, I'd hope to see better fuel econ due to the plugs, but it sounds like I wasn't doing bad at all from what I'm seeing here. This is a 2wd that I have. Are your Rangers all 4wd? I'll have to look at the diff and other specs to see what the difference is here, but I'm hoping for 25 to 28mpg at least.
(My truck is a 2000 Ranger SuperCab with 3.0L 2wd and 194K miles. Tires are standard size of 225 70R15)

Re: 2000 Ford Ranger Supercab 2wd 3.0l 5speed mpg's
if you have 4.10 gears of lower (gasp) you will get lousy mileage for the most part. If you have 3.55 or higher, you will loose torque, but will get good mileage and engine's rpm will be lower.
