Default Misfires in Multiple Cylinders -2003

Hey all, here's the problem. I know next to nothing about fixing vehicles to start.

My 2003 Ranger 3.0 Edge parking break locked up one day so I put it in reverse and give it a little push and it popped back out. A few weeks after that it started making a squeaking noise. That noise later went away on its own.

I've noticed it idles a little rough, so today I changed the spark plugs and wires, oil, oil filter and air filter. (First time for myself.)

My buddy helped me gap the Motorcraft Platinums and install them and the wires. After the installation I noticed the idle for a little rougher and I lost power while driving. We hooked up a machine and it said that I had multiple misfires in the cylinders.

I drove it home and put fuel injector cleaner in and filled up. It seems my RPMs are higher and I have to give it more to get it to shift. It jumps to about 4000 before setting in to 3rd gear.

ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

So did these misfire codes come up after you replaced the plugs? If so, then pull the plugs out and make sure they were indeed gapped correctly. If that doesn't help, double check your firing order, and make sure you have your wires corresponding to that. Let us know if that helps any.

you did something wrong in the install....get the codes and they will identify the cylinders......check change the plugs and wires for those cylinders

Thanks for the replies guys! I went out today and got a new coil pack since the old one had never been changed and looked brittle. It is running a small bit better, but still having the small misfires. I am going to get a gap tool and re-do all of the plugs tomorrow like you guys say.

I'll let you know how it goes. *fingers crossed*

EDIT- Can someone please explain the firing order? I think I understand the concept.

Just wondering.........Do you wear a blindfold when you throw the parts at the truck?

The firing order is the order in which each spark plug fires in the cylinder. In your truck it should be 1-4-2-5-3-6, The 1st cylinder is in the front on the passenger side. The one behind it is the 2nd cylinder, followed by the 3rd cylinder. The 4th cylinder is at the front of the motor on the driver's side, then comes the 5th cylinder, followed by the 6th cylinder. So since the firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6, the 1st cylinder fires first, followed by the 4th cylinder, then the 2nd cylinder fires, and so on according to the firing order.

try to clean your MAF, IAC and throttle body, i cleared my misfires just by doing that, dont just start throwing parts on it, if aint broken why fix it lol, you could have seafoam your truck before you replace your spark plugs and oil, just suggestin..

Did you check the gap and the firing order, or just the firing order?
