Default Rough Idle, bad cam pos sensor?

I just bought a 97 Ranger 2wd, 3.0 auto that is in good shape but runs a bit rough. It has a rough idle and it idles high. I think the brake booster is leaking vacuum as I can hear it so I unplugged it and plugged the port. A little better but still not right. I can hear the cam synchronizer singing and if I pull cyl 2 coil wire there is no change in rpm, all the others lower rpm. Will a bad cam sensor make it run like this or is there something Im missing? Thanks

Tony

did you replace the vacuum line or did you just plug it?

sounds like you need a full tune up. Clean the TB, MAF, IAC, run seafoam through it, find the vacuum leak and fix it, oil change, filter change, see if the misfire is from the spark plug or not, but first change the Cam synchro, or you'll be in a world of shit.

Im going to talk to previous owner tomorrow since I work with him. He threw a bunch of parts at it instead of diagnosing the problem. As far as I know, new heads, egr, MAF, plugs, wires and brake booster. I heard the vacuum leak at brake booster, between booster and master cylinder so I plugged the port on intake to see if there was a change, RPMs came down some and a bit smoother but not totally

I can pull no2 coil wire and no change in rpm. Can the cam pos sensor cause this behavior, mis and rough idle. I plugged the brake booster port trying to pinpoint one problem at a time. I dont want to replace coil pack if I dont have to but the cam sync is a must so it is first.
