Post How much for a new engine?

Hey everyone. I am curious on how much a new engine would cost? Which would be best to get if I was to buy one? A 3.0 or 4.0? My engine has 144 thousand and once it hits a certain amount of mileage, I was thinking I could just buy a new engine and keep my truck. Or would it be easier and or cheaper to just go out and buy a new truck and use my truck now as a trade in? Any help would be great. Thanks.

I really wouldn't worry about it. I just rolled 200k a few weeks ago, and it still feels the same. Doesn't run any worse, still looks like shit, and still gets a few gallons to the mile.

You talking brand new engine with 0 miles? if so I would say just the block, cam, crank and heads, your looking at $1500 - $2000 possibly

Of course that would be a remanufactured engine. You would have to swap all your stuff over to it that it didnt come with.

With how many cars Ford put the 3.0 into for so many years, a junk yard owner might pay you to take one away with about 80k miles on it.
you might actually have to give him $5 for one with under 50K.

People are always selling engines on craigslist for around 450-650, usually with a tranny with decent mileage. Just do rebuild and replace the accessories.

Wow! Did not know it can be so cheap. I'm glad no one said to buy a new truck . But I was probably thinking that once I hit those mileage, I was going to trade it in and probably get another Ranger with coils (newer year of course) or an F150 because I love there interior design. Or the new Ford Fusion or Focus lol. But thanks everyone for your replies; I really appreciate it.

Ya, you could just throw it in, and its cheap that way, but its probably a good idea to have it rebuilt to some extent that way it last alot longer.

A good used one is a lot cheaper than tearing down a bad one and rebuilding it..parts aren't getting cheaper, and machine shop labor is always high for the best work..the 3 liter is a hard engine to kill..and, as had been said..there are lots of them out there..If you go for a used engine, the 4 liter is as good on gas and a bit more HP too.

If you can put it in yourself then they are pretty cheap. I got mine for 1600, but the shop that installed it brought the total up to almost 5000, not fun.

Yeah, if I went the route, I would definitely get a 4.0 because of the better MPG and little more power over the 3.0's.

Yeah I wouldn't mind getting either the new Focus, Fusion, or a Mazda RX-8 or RX-7. Mazda is with Ford so there all good . Or trade it in for a bigger truck such as the F-150 and lowering it (haha) or a Toyota Tundra and lower it; but I don't like there bodies (too bulky).

Wow, that does not sound like fun. I could sell my truck for a good 10k and use that 5k to add to it and get a new vehicle; shoot .
