Default rpm's slow to drop

this 98 standard shift keeps about 2500 rpm between shifts for several seconds. Feels like something mechanical could be sticking, cuz a jab of the gas pedal usually drops the rpm's right back down to idle. Any ideas?

Well, I spent $40 on the IAC, and now it seems I'll need to do more work to fix this problema. Gonna clean up the throttle body intake with some cleaner.

Make sure your throttle cable is operating smoothly. It might be sticking or the return spring might be weak. Have you done the throttle cable mod yet? It might help too. There is a "how to" sticky in the technical section.

I would say take out the throttle body and give it a good cleaning. Especially the butterfly and the return spring like stated above. And sea foam the car as well.

If you dont know what sea foam is just let me know and i will do a quick little write up for ya.

Also fill the entire tank up with gas and a whole bottle of Lucas fuel treatment. It says on the bottle that you should add only 3 quarts for every 10 but it also says an over treat is not harmful so its like an intense cleaning for your injectors.

Bad IAC's rarely tend to produce a high idle, it's usually a poor idle due to the IAC not being able to properly regulate the idle when a load is added. I agree with the sticking return spring/cable.
