Default New 1999 3.0 V6 FF with problems

Hello, new to the forum. I've got a 1999 3.0 ff with 109K that I've had for a few months. Has run fine till yesterday... Started stumbling at 65 on the freeway cleared up quick but did trip the check engine light. Today went to pull codes and had no output from the computer, checked with 3 different scanners and no signal at all, but truck was running fine but the radio would turn on and off by itself and the oil pressure gauge will swing wildly (this may or may not be related). Then on a short trip started stumbling so I pulled it over and restarted and the idle was very rough with a ticking or popping sound from the motor, got it home and let it cool and restarted but still very rough idle. The guy I got it from had any problems done by a dealer so I don't have a history of work done. But what I do have is 15 years experience with 4 different Taurus SHO's so I'm familiar with difficult Fords and trouble shooting. The lack of codes or any output from the ecm seems strange, but power has been good and the idle has been stable but maybe a little jumpy. The only real problem is that the gas gauge is uneven, 120 miles or so in the first 1/4 tank and 25 or 30 in the last 1/4 but the milage seems good at 365 miles a tank so I'm assuming the timing isn't that off?!? Any thoughts? Thanks.

If you have 15 years experience you shouldn't need codes. . .

Has it been raining where you are, or did you water your interior lately.
Sounds like you have some ghosts and by the lack of communication with the Mrs. you should probably start checking around her. It is possible the the level indicator is dragging a little around the half or somewhere there abouts and it is also possible that the indicative signs here could be pointing towards issues in the fuel tank, persay bad fuel, failing pump, debris getting passed the filter. As for the gremlins, that is your vehicle telling you what is wrong.
With some more details and timeline I could probably help you find the direct problem/s.

Thanks for the reply, I'm going to do the fuel filter and find the pump today. Looks like it's in the tank and of course it's half full. Can the codes be checked with a paper clip like other older fords? Thanks
