Default Power Increase?

My little 3.0 is not doing it for me anymore. I need more power.

What would it take to increase the HP & TRQ to ~200?

I have a limited budget so I have no problem with doing it myself.

What is the easiest way?

you should do these simple bolt ons:
1. cold air intake
2. exhaust- preferably one that is relatively straight, leaving the cats in
3. U/D pulleys
4. electric fan upgrade while doing pulley install
5. spark wires/ coil pack
6. re-tune
may not be 200 hp but will get you close to that mark, and much better fuel economy. for the exhaust i recommend dumping it right after the muffler, it has the best flow since there aren't any bends involved.

As far as dumping it, make sure you use at least 18" after the muffler to smooth out the flow again. It's been proven that shorter pipes after the muff will actually hurt power.

Should I just get the Crankshaft Pulley to begin with, and then add on to that, or is it better to get all of them at once?

Should I just get the UD pulley for the crankshaft and build up from that, or is it better to get all of them at once?

ya that would be a good start. the other pulleys have only a small affect, so unless your running a huge sound system, you wont need the alternator pulley, and the water pump pulley only is there to compensate for the smaller alternator pulley. i just dont know what size belt you will need for just the crankshaft pulley.
while your doing that, if you decide to upgrade to an electric fan, do it then. it is much easier to do while everything is out, and gives you much more room to work with in front of the block.

Power / modifications come at a price.

Easiest way to achieve ~200hp+ would be to Whipple/super or turbo charge it with low amounts of boost. I think I read somewhere to expect 215HP at the wheels (or an advertised 55% horse power increase) with a Whipple Charger. But horse power is only a small piece of the picture. 5.0L HOs stock make a little over 200hp, but they also make over 300 ft lbs of torque. Torque is what moves things. The aftermarket is also cheaper and the returns are much greater for the money that you do spend. This is also true with the 4.0L and a lot of other V8s, but a lot of this comes down to what the truck will be used for (where is the power made?).

Plus the cool factor of having forced induction is a plus.

I would definitely look into higher ratio roller rockers.

As far as the pullies, I would recommend skipping the hassle and buying all at once. You'll loose money in swapping belts and shipping costs.

Pete
