Default Blown '97 3.0L - what will fit?

Hey all,

First time on the board and hoping for some help. The truck in question actually belongs to my son but I am the lead mechanic around the farm so I thought I'd see if I could get some info. It is a '97 with a 3.0L, 4wd, 5 speed standard.

Can someone please tell me what compatible motors I should be looking for?

Thanks, Bear

well you can make it easy by just finding another 3.0 or looking into rebuilding the blown one.

Thanks DHEM, but I wanted to be sure I got one that fits. I was told that only certain years were compatible.

There's some '95s going up at an auction this weekend. If one of those had a 3.0L would it fit? Other people have told me that certain Explorer and Taurus engines would fit too. Does anyone know about that?

Thanks, Bear

you might need to switch over a few small things to get one to fit. If you get a 3.0 from a car you'll need to swap the air intake for a truck intake.

from the research I've done if you use a 3.0 from a front wheel drive car you must replace the head gaskets or you'll experience overheating issues due to the smaller holes for the coolant passages in the gasket. not sure, about that but I've read several posts about this issue.
