Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
As you can see I have had a problem twice with my overdrive light blinking while going down the road. My overdrive still works when it does it. I can hit the button and feel it engage and disengage. So, what is it trying to tell me?

Re: Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
Take it into the shop and have the code read. But don't listen to what they tell you about how to fix it. I have a similar problem with my truck. I got quoted between $400-$2500 to fix my problem from 4 different shops, all of which thought it was something different than the others. I found a loose connector on my trans, and it continuously comes loose when I hit rough roads, which trips the light upon the next self scan that the computer does. However, this may or may not be your problem. Get us the code and let us know what that is, and tell us the symptoms you have felt before the O/D Off light starts flashing.
FYI, the O/D Off light is a multipurpose light. Just because it flashes doesn't mean your overdrive is bad, that light serves as the check transmission light as well, so any problems with the trans will result in the flashing light. When you shut your O/D Off with the switch, then that O/D Off light is steady.

Re: Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
The truck does not really drive any different when it comes on. It has only come on twice, so Idk.

Re: Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
If you get a chance the next time it flashes.... count the number of times it flashes. Think of it as morris code from your truck. You will need to watch the pause between flash segments.
A good example I am having.... my airbag light will flash 4 times, pause the 6 times. It will then repeat, then eventually stay on. Which means the sensors are need adjusting and/or my seat belt system is sending back connection failure.
Once you count the code, you can then cross reference the issue.

Re: Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
I would not recommend driving the truck with an O/D Off light flashing, as the truck will be put into fail safe mode, which is only meant to get you home. Driving with the trans in limp home mode for an extended period of time results in transmission failure.
If you don't notice any symptoms, then you could have a wiring fault. But you still need to get that code to fully diagnose what it is. Unfortunately for you, O/D Off lights come on for a reason, and that reason in most cases doesn't up and disappear.

Re: Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
I think it is wiring. That has to be the only reason it comes on and comes off. It has only come on twice. Then when I shut it off it went away and didn't come back which leads me to believe it is wiring.

Re: Overdrive light blinking everynow and then
You said it seems to be shifting fine with no noise?
Maybe speed sensor? Agree above, don't want to go UNTIL you hear noises!

I hear ya man. Electronically controlled transmissions are still relatively mechanical instruments. When they start to go, there's noticeable symptoms.
