Default Hose nipple/connector on firewall?

UPDATED WITH PICS...I have a 2000 Ranger super cab 4x4...there is a male connector/nipple on passenger side firewall..apx 3/4 inch diameter, sticks out apx. 1.5 inches..there is no hose unhooked, etc...whats this for..thanks.

Theres 2 connectors on firewall apx. 4 inches apart...1 has hose connected to it...1 doesnt...and I have no ''loose hoses''...I'll get a pic on soon...I tried to chase down a hose that maybe came loose, no luck..I have heat.

Thanks Terry...8 yrs and that just now catches my eye while changing plugs...lol..had a feeling it was just a vent of some sort...thanks again.

Yep, it's a drain for the heater core. My heater core in my old Ranger cracked and the floorboard didn't even get wet. It just drained out of that. I got lucky.

87 Ranger XLT 2.9L The small extension through the firewall I believe is for emergency drain of hot coolant should there be a breach of heater core. By looking at it from the inside it is slanted for external drainage of hot water so that it will not infiltrate the interior of the car.
