Default high rpm

Have a 2002 ranger 6 cyl 5 speed stantard.Lately when in between shifts the rpm stay way up around 3000 rpm. Like something is sicking like a choke.

Does this thing have a throttle position sensor??

What would be the most likely cause of sticking high rpm. Sometimes a quick stomp on the gas pedal gets it back to normal. Sometimes it works fine.

It is intermitent a sign something is about to cause problems??

Thanks.

Probably the TPS. I just replaced mine for the same problem.

Did you have to adjust the TPS?

Thanx!
