Default new serpentine belt???

i have a 3.0 2000 xlt with 130,000 miles on it, today i heard a thump bam noise and headed for home, the check engine lite, battery lite and check gages lite came on, also lost my power steering.. when i got home my serpentine belt was hanging out the bottem of my truck which had like a 1/3 of it cut lenght wise, so i bought a new one at pep boys and installed it- all was well for about 3 minutes then started to make awlfull noices like something was gonna blow. so i shut it down and examined the belt which looked okay but maybe a lil ****eyed at the tensioner pulley? pulled the new belt off and cut the old belt that had the hanging piece off so i basically had a belt that was 2/3 as wide as new and all worked fine again?? was wondering from the pros if maybe my idler pulley or tensioner pully went bad and is forcing the belt to the edge of another pulley causing it to be cut like the first belt???? any ideas???

When you put the belt on and started the truck, did you notice the belt trying to slide off the pulleys? If you spin the pulley, does it free spin? Does it wobble? How tight is the belt?

yes upper pulley was sliding to the front of it just to the point of where it's likebarely overhanging. it free spins with no belt but doesnt feel loose or wobbly, belt goes on fairly easily when i install it

I would replace both the idler and tensioner pulley. I was told that it is good practice to replace them at 100k.

I only have 104,000 on mine and infact this just happened to me last week I had replaced the belt just before xmas and last week heard a thump clang and saw something medal like fly out from under my truck while driving. Turned out that my tension bar the whole thing ripped right off.. So ya I would replace the tension pulley and the the belt...
