Default 3.0 to 4.0 swap

Ok guys after careful consideration I have decided to go with the 4.0 sohc motor in place of the craziness that is the lightning motor simply because it is cheaper and easier to switch over the systems. With that said I was wondering about any problems there are with the 4.0 so that I can get the swap done fairly quick. Any help is appreciated. Oh btw I will be putting one of sts's turbo kits on the truck as well wh en I get it running good.

well i would except this is my daily driver and i don't have the fab skills to do the motor mounts and what not, i just want a little more power and torque, and since the 4.0 is rated around 200 hp that would suffice for me. I'm just tired of not having enough torque to get out of my own way... lol

Guessing you have a '06? Think you'd save a lot of time and effort, if your truck is in good condition, to sell it and buy the truck with the options you want. You're basically going to need a good running donor truck to complete the swap.

I don't think he is asking to buy another truck or he does not want to instal a 5.0, He is asking a question that has been ask so many time and have been ask by me as well, Their is nothing wrong with putting a 5.0 motor in, but not everyone has the means or maybe just flat out don't want it in their ranger, However the 3.0-4.0 upgrade makes a lot of since, But on other boards when you ask the question, ONE it either don't get answered or TWO you get sideline and told to put a 5.0 in their.

I say go with the 4.0, You would need a

1-donor engine
2-trans (auto or manual) to match your setup
3-engine harness
4-computer
5-gem module ( or just swap the entire dash)

their may be other things, but what i have listed above will crank her right over.

yeah, like Bru said, you basically need everything touching the motor. the best thing would be to buy a wrecked truck and park them side by side and just start swapping.

How did the swap go? What were the major headaches & would you do it again.

I am considering a swap for my 2001 Ranger; know it is going to be a PIA, but at least have been thinking about it as the economy continues to suck and I ain't getting any richer to afford the monthly payment for another truck.

Thanks JW
