Where are the spark plugs? I have NO clue how to find them. And how do I use the gap tool?

Hmm, wouldnt have thunk it but okay. On top of your engine there will be a box of sorts just behind the oil fill tube and it will have six McDonald straw diameter cables attached to it, typically they are grey with black connectors, find them and then just follow them around the side of the motor each one is attached to a spark plug on the other end. (do one at a time or label the motor and wires if they do not have the cylinder # on them.) G/L

P.S. forgot about the gap tool. It is a disc with a gradient edge(it goes from thin to really thin) you put the really thin edge in the gap of your spark plug then rotate the disc in the gap until it stops then whilst holding it so, look at the disc and see what numbers are closest to the center of the electrode this will be the gap measurement, It is not really a grave concern but it is generally a good idea to check them it should literally take 10 seconds per plug. I know earlier someone mentioned the proper gap measure, just check it out and don't worry if you can put a fork in your mouth without needing stitches you can do it easily. . . . . If not find a car guy and offer him beer. . . . .

The manual you are looking for looks like this one:



This is money well spent, they run about $25 where I live.

If you are really looking for something like that I would suggest You Tube.
There is alot of coverage on this and some other basic car care things.

Do you know what a spark plug socket is and do you have the appropriate one, I am assuming that you have purchased your plugs, so you can take the plug sockets and match up the one you need. Then do not be nervous go out and get under the hood follow one of the plug wires out to the side of the motor do not pull them from the coil pack where they are all bunched up be sure to pull the boot of the wire and there you have a plug now fit your socket to it, the figure out what length extension you will need and get the right ratchet. Then remove the plug and replace with the new one. I would recommend using a tiny amount of anti-seize compound on the threads of the plug and lightly lubricate the inner lip of the boot with di-electric grease. I would suggest writing the plug # on the box the new one came out of and placing the old one in it. Plugs can tell a mechanic alot about the condition of your engine.
Now just go do it. . . First it is one, then it's another, then you are done. Too easy, really. Pull boot, remove plug, replace plug, replace boot, this leads to self satisfaction and is pleasing to mizers and motorheads everywhere. Beware becoming a motorhead can lead to a poor and lonely life. . .

First jack the truck up and place stands underneath it.

Remove both passenger and driver side tires

Find your coil pack on the driver side


There will be numbers marked on the coil pack 1-6 like so
4 5 6 are the front ones and 3 2 1 are on the back

Now u need to get in the tire area on the driver side and remove the boot from the very first plug closets to the front of the truck

Remove the boot and go to the coil pack and pull up on the wire you just disconnected.

Remove the wire from the coil pack and get your replacement wire.

Connect your new wire and drop it down keeping it away from moving parts and the exhaust

Now remove your spark plug.

Once the old one is out get your new and get ready to gap it if they are plugs that require gaping. If your not sure ask the place you buy them from

How to gap a plug


Once you gap it apply some anti seize to the threads of the plug

Then insert the plug in the hole do not over tighten the plug run it down nice and snug

These steps are pretty much the same for the rest

I have faith in you. It is by the fact that you are not an over zealous DH that you will get it done right. Just do as I said and you'll be fine. Get the right tools, get the parts, get to work.

STL Me could be wrong here but isn't the 3.0 coil on the Pass. side?

Maybe I dont have one to verify I would think it is on the driver side

Just take your time and go one plug and plug wire at a time
