If you don't know anything about them and how to take one out and install a new one, I would suggest going to a mechanic and paying them to do it. I knew what they are and what problems you get and hear when they go bad; but installing one myself, yeah right. It's a important part of your engine that you do not want to mess up. So best bet is to take it to the shop IMO.

Replacing the cam sync isn't hard at all. However, you do need to make it top priority to make sure you put the new sync in exactly like the old one was. Here's a link that explains it quite well. There are two ways of doing it, this is the longer way, but it's the one I recommend because it assures that the truck is at TDC, and just makes it easier in my opinion.

Taking it to a mechanic to do it just simply isnt an option. I simply just do not have the extra 200 or so cash to take it to a shop. I am doing plenty of research so I do not mess up because I know how important it is.
Im going to check out that link.

Yeah I agree on you with that. I had to pay 100 dollars to get my replaced but it fixed the problem. That and I never knew about that article, I did my research but I ended up going to the shop. Definitely give it a look and have confident in yourself and work slowly making sure everything is correct and done right. Good luck.

so basically, in very lame terms. The tooth at the top of the NEW synce needs to be in the exact same position as the OLD sync? Im no really liking those instructions in that link. But from what some ofthe other guys are saying, that tooth just needs to be in the same spot and all will be well.

It actually took me reading that article two times to actually fully understand it, but I feel it gave me alot more confidence. Basically, replacing the cam sync is no different than replacing a distributor, since essentially the cam sync is the bottom half of a distributor.
