Default overheating need help?

I have a 2000 3.0L 2wd

Just the other day it started overheating. It's not straight out full blown overheating but it's definitely to the "marker" at the "H".

It does go down then back up. It seems the heater is acting sparatically as well. Blows hot then cold, don't know if it has an affect on the temperature gauge. I was thinking maybe it was the thermostat, my Ram did the same thing a couple years back. I'm just hoping it's not the heater core.

Thanks for all the help i've gotten off of here.

JD

For a start I would replace the thermostat and flush the system.

same here, I just had that problem and changed out the coolant valve, temp sensor, and a “leaking” water pump.
