Default 2003 Ranger Edge: where's the fuel filter?

Having problems starting my V6 Ranger Edge and I'm suspecting the fuel filter may need to be replaced. Where is it? Any tips on replacing it?
TIA
Tom

Yup, mine is around there. I just crawled under the truck and found it pretty easily. Took me about 5 minutes to replace mine, just pressed the releases, pulled the filter off, popped the new one one.

Be warned though that if you do this with pressure still in the line you should expect some fuel spray. I lucked out and had the opportunity to let my truck sit for a couple days before I did mine, allowing the pressure the be naturally released.

Pull the fuse for the fuel pump then start it & let it run untill it dies. Then there is no pressure in the line. Replace fuel filter, reinstall the fuse & enjoy

u can release pressure with the inertia switch on the inside of truck passenger side floor board up on the fire wall area

Just unplug inertia switch connector crank engine over for 15-20 seconds

Definatly do not do when the truck is warm or the exhaust is warm.

I did mine right after buying it and gas splashed onto the exhaust it was a very intense moment while the gas smoked on the very hot exhaust. No fire but I was scrambling to get out from under the truck

By the way guys, I found a schrader valve on the fuel rail on top of the engine for releasing pressure in the fuel lines. It made changing the filter a snap. Definitely was clogged too at 60,000 miles.

they were pretty damn easy. just push in on the colored tabs and pull the fitting off. I think the tabs were green and orange on mine. you have to push in kind of hard but they come right off if you apply the right pressure.

I had the exact same set up and it worked like a charm. I still got some gas on me from what was in the filter but, it's worth the $75 savings over having the shop replace the filter. Thanks for your help.

I realized that is a very old message but maybe some one can give me a clue of valve location.

What the story on the schrader valve. It was mention about a schrader value located on the fuel rail. Where is that at exactly. Sound like someone may have been an aircraft mechanic at one time talking about a schrader valve. I surely do remember those valves.....

Have a 2008 Ranger 3.0 and want to change the fuel filter. Unit has 71,000 mile on it and doult it has ever been changed................
