Default Rpm Help

I have a 2002 Ranger Edge and when it's in neutral if I hit the gas it won't go past 3000 rpm without the engine bucking like an angry horse. is this normal or should I get it checked out?

Its the rev limiter kicking in. It does the same thing in park too. Its put into the computer to protect the engine from hitting unnecessary rpms. The only way to take it off is to get a performance tuner and take it off through that. All Rangers have it for the most part. You might find out that its limited at 95 mph also... if you get brave to try to get there. haha

Yeah! I can't get past 95 before it starts complaining. I did it on an old country road. it wasn't dangerous. but yeah. I got to 95 and she just gave up. I was like lame! it says 120 mph. not 95.

factory safety precautions, for people like you that want to rev the piss out of it in neutral. Even if you get a tunner, I wouldn't set it higher that MAYBE 4k in neutral. you don't need it to rev in neutral, so why do it?

Once I get my upcoming paychecks/ birthday/ christmas, i will be getting some more performance parts that will get me to 95 well before the 1/4 mile finsh so I will need the tuner to take off that speed limiter. Sad that I can hit 105 in my bro's Foscus and not in my V6!

Gear ratio's max speed, Not Recommended for a high center of gravity, soft springed, escort framed, pick'em up, You really would not have liked it when cars where mandated not to exceed 85 MPH and the ODO were all marked at 55MPH. . .

Heh, my truck will bury the speedo, and yes, it is safe at those speeds, and no, it's not stock.

I seem to notice your missing a little something too though, like I don't know springs maybe. It is just insane to think about someone being able to buy a stock Ranger and exceed 100MPH, It scares the Satan's Venue out of me doing it in a Mustang GT. Now with this understand I will typically exceed 170mph in any given week, but you can bet your Sweet Mule it's not in my Ranger. . .
