Well, unplugging it doesn't always work. When my last one failed, I tried unplugging it, and nothing happened. Next step is remove the two bolts holding the IAC on, flip the IAC over, and see if you can manually move the plunger. I know the bad one I have makes a big racket whenever the plunger is moved, something I know it shouldn't be doing.

No problem,i did make a arse out of myself when i first joined, but all good now !

Just wish i could find this noise, really don't think the IAC is it ,but maybe my lucky day ?
I raised it at work and listened from trans to rear end and hard to tell ,but may be at front of trans ? When i bought the truck at 32k the rear main was barely seeping, then quite shortly after until now at 59k and about the same minor seep.I'm kinda got the idea the seal may be hardened and making the noise ? Anyone ever hear of this ? Thanks !!

Is it a solid hum? Does the noise ever break up? Example: Hummmmmmmmm pause hummmmmmmmm?

I get that. It also sounds like it is coming from the firewall area. I hear solid hums for like 30 seconds and then it pauses for maybe 2 before starting again. Sometimes it solid hums for the whole ride.

I was told it may be a tensioner pulley. I'm not sure if this could be it or not, but it's cheap enough and I need to replace the belt. So I will replace it this weekend.

It's faint and will get louder at times, here loudest under truck and sound travels through driveshaft.

Hasn't been loud enough lately to record ,but if does I'll post a link for it.

I keep forgetting about you being able to hear it through the driveshaft. Can you hear it through the transmission pan?

Hmm, so if you can hear it in the driveshaft, but it's in park and nothing is moving, it sounds like it'd be some kind of vibration, whether it's air flowing through a passage, or something else rubbing against another part.

I have a chirp style humming noise when first starting the truck, but after it ran for 10 minutes or so, it stopped chirping and was just a constant hum. Could this still be the camshaft syncro?

It could either be the Cam Sync, or the belt. IIRC, the cam sync doesn't stop squeaking until you replace it. Quick way to check is to pull the belt off and start the truck. If it squeaks, it's the cam sync.

It's probably my belt then. I get the hum when its cold out mostly. I had a month or more with no humming. I will replace the belt and pulley this weekend.

Thanks for your help Shaun.
