Default What I Did......

I thought I would post a "what I did" to solve a small problem after I did the air box silencer mod located here:

http://www.fordrangerforum.com/engin...ir-intake.html

This is a good mod, I believe. However, it leaves a large gap between the air box inlet and the radiator support. This allows heated under hood air to be drawn into the air box, possibly heating the incoming air. I got a pack of two foam pieces from Wally World and made a spacer with a corresponding hole in it to seal against the air box and against the radiator support sealing the air inlet from under hood air. I actually made two. The first was made from polyfill. I ain't crazy about polyfill, so I got some foam. Somebody wants the polyfill one, I will gladly box it up and send it to you. It's crude lookin, but it works rather well. The one in the chair is the polyfill one. See pics.

I wouldn't do it, it looks like it will clog your air filter in a day's worth of driving.

Nope. Not hardly. The poly fill and the foam both hold their shapes very well. In fact, polyfill has been used before a LOT in the automotive world for just such a thing. I guess you'd have to see the consistancy first hand to understand.

Polyfill is similar to insulation but has more "body" if you will. Standard insulation is much more "loose" than polyfill. The polyfill has a much tighter structure and will hold together. The foam is even better. Did you know the foam is getting really hard to find and expensive? Some bunny huggin stuff about the CFCs it puts off in manufacturing. I guess the Al Gores of the world have nuthin better to do.

Billet??? LMAO I ain't a billet kinda guy. When I finally clean my truck up to take some pics, you'll understand. lol
