I'm new to the ranger scene and I have a 01 ranger xlt with a 3.0L. How do I know if it's a Vulcan engine or not? Were all the 3.0s vulcans or was there a specific VIN for the Vulcan engine?

Correct, the certain vin pertains to flex fuel versions. V near the end of the VIN means flex-fuel and U means gasoline only I believe.

The 8th digit of the VIN is the engine code, and as mentioned above, U is a regular Vulcan, and I guess V is a Flex fuel one.
