Default A/C Vent switching issue

No matter what setting I select, the only vents it will come through are the defrost and a smidge on the floor vents. I checked the electrical plug on it and it is seated fine. I have a bad feeling it is in the vac side, which I have no clue and wouldnt even know where to begin BS'n my way into to try and solve this issue. Heats and cools just fine.

Anybody with knowledge on this?

Yes, loss of vacuum will default the flow to the defrost ducts. 2 common problems:
  • The plastic vacuum hose that runs along the passenger side inner fender area is cut, unplugged or melted against the exhaust manifold.
  • The vacuum reservoir is damaged or unplugged. Its shape and location varies by year.
Less likely vacuum problems could be in the vac lines and servos under the dash or in the vac supply tube between the engine and the reservoir.

Sweet. Its an 02 edge 2wd

I had a hit an run on that side. Worked fine when I took it to the body shop, then came back like this. Took it back and "we didnt touch anything dealing with that". Which is what I figued would be the responce.

Thanks for the info. Gives me a good spot to start trouble shooting from.

Your vacuum reservoir is the black plastic sphere under the air filter box. It should be screwed to the inner fender with two screws. Often damaged in accidents and often left misinstalled by body shops. Look for cracks or the ball may be missiing altogether. Also, since they had it apart, the 2 vacuum lines could be on backwards. There's an internal check valve in the ball and air flow should go toward the engine only.

Found one of the lines off. Seated it back into the open port, op checked bad. Switched the lines, still op checked bad. Both lines looked good with 0 defects noted.

Needless to say still at a loss. Will be taking it back to the body shop to test their "lifetime warranty". If you got any other suggestions now with this info, let me know.

No, it's pretty simple. A vacuum line is routed from the intake manifold to the reservoir, then another line takes it from the reservoir rearward to the HVAC plenum. I'd give the reservoir and lines another careful look. A cracked reservoir is common after an accident and sometimes the vac lines get pinched or possibly misrouted and melted against the exhaust manifold.

Correct sir. Hoses are fine. Took out the vac res for a better inspection. 1/8 inch or so crack on the top front. Mixed up some double bubble epoxy and sealed it up. Works like a champ now. Thanks buddy.
