Default Re: 3.0L V-6 Camshaft Synchronizer

So i have a 2003 V6, 3.0L flex fuel. Its been throwing a code the past couple months for my camshaft/crankshaft position sensors(p1336). I've already replaced both sensors, and cleaned the ECU possibly thinking that maybe one of the things could be dirty or dusty, causing throwing a code. I've had it turned off and reset many times, and its still throwing the same one. From what I've researched if there was a problem with the crankshaft, it would be misfiring and or not starting or wouldn't be giving any power behing it. Well the check enging light has been one for liike 4 or 5 months now and the truck had run like a boss. Nothing seems to be wrong with it. And most people have just told me to ignore the light, its probally nothing. But if you're anything like me, you wouldn't be able to stand the orange light constantly on....... Any ideas or past experiences? please, it would help me out soooo much! thanks.

I changed mine this weekend on my 2001 and it has completely fixed all the missing over 3K and missed shifts. Thanks for the great info on this procedure.

I've got a 1998, Ranger Supercab XLT, 2WD, 3.0 Auto, and need to change out my CS as well. I hear horror stories about Dorman, but I'm not hearing much about Cordone. Anyone have any experience with this brand? My first choice would be Motorcraft, but I can get a Cordone from a mech I know really cheap.

Went with a Motorcraft synchro (about $100 from RockAuto). Installed it today, and all seems okay with it. No more squeek, no trouble lights/codes, runs better.

Hi there, I have a 2001 Ranger 3.0l. I changed the tensioner pulley and Idler pulley yesterday due to a squeak that was happening over 1800rpm. I believed it was the tensioner pulley bearing that was causing it. I also replaced the belt with a Gates yesterday. The truck has 137,000 miles on it. The squeak that occurred over 1800rpm went away. Now I get one only at idle. Its not a constant squeak as the other one was, but off on off on...etc. I am thinking it could be the cam synch? any ideas would be great. This is off topic maybe, but there is a strange knocking nose also and airbag light has been one for a month now. No engine light on or flashing. Oil pressure gauge flickers when I drive the first couple min as the engine warms up then stays at normal position.
