Default 1994 wont run

Hi guys, I hate to join a forum and ask a question without doing the search first, but I'm tired and really wanting to call it quits for the day. I just bought a 1994 Ranger with a v-6, the guy I got it from said it was running perfect one sec., died the next. The fuel pump engages when the switch is first turned on, prior to bumping the starter,(you can hear it anyway),so my first qestion for my first post is, what sensors, wires or etc., should I look at first? Which leads me to what I beleive will be my second question of my first post, what scanner do you guys recommend for this vehicle? Again, I'm sorry for not using the search function first, but this has been a long week. Thanks

You can get a regular old scanner at pepboys for like 19.99
I dont know how that will help if there is no CEL on

is your truck 4X4 and what V6, is it the 3.0 or the 4.0?
thats unfortunate about the truck, usually rangers are so trouble-free

first off do you have fuel pressure at the rail? you can press in the fitting with a rag over it to see, don't need a gauge. if you have fuel check it a 2nd time to make sure. if you have fuel then look at spark

Thanks for the responses guys, when I got home and got to checking on it turned out to be the distributor was loose, which you all know the rest, I got lucky on that one, but this being my first Ranger, now that I know it runs, what can I do to help with fuel economy, If anything, it seems to be fairly sufficient in that department, based on the limited expeirience I've had with it, But better is always better, Thanks again for all the help, and I apoligize again for not using the search. (BTW, its a 2 WD 3.0)
