Default mineral vs synthetic oil

Ranger fans
I have a 2000 ranger 3.0 liter 5 speed 2wd runs excellant 154000 miles thinking about switching to amsoil synthetic oil. my dad runs it it everything he owns and swears that it he gets better mileage any thoughts out there. Also are all 3.0 vulcans? Thanks

all 3.0s in rangers are vulcans. ford did make a different 3 liter v-6, actually more accurately, yamaha made it. it is the SHO v-6.

and yes, the SHO motor has been put into a ranger. i think ford did it as an experiment and others have done it too. bet it's one fun truck.

The oil will hold up longer. It might give slightly better gas mileage but not a whole lot. The interior of the engine will also be cleaner.

It's a personal call on whether you use it or not. Petroleum oil will do just fine as long as you change it when you are supposed to.

I split the difference. I buy whatever synthetic is on sale. It might not be as good as a premium synthetic like Amsoil but it is better than petroleum oil. My engines are a lot cleaner inside when I have to crack them open for something.

I wouldn't do it. far too late to be switching over to get any benifits.

Ford made 3 3.0 liter V6's: the pushrod Vulcan, the DOHC Yamaha that went into SHO's, and the DOHC Duratec that went into the Escape and the higher end Taurses/Sables. It replaced the pushrod 3.8 V6. Vulcan introduced in '86, Yamaha '89, Duratec '96.

I don't know about in Rangers, but I consistently gained 2 mpg in an '03 Focus SVT by going to royal purple...I figured it over about two dozen tanks of gas, so it should be fairly accurate!

synthetic oil has more advantages over conventional oil, but for some reason an engine that has been filled with conventional oil tend to leak when you put synthetic in it, like the seals sorta broke-in for conventional oil or something.
