Default Had my 01 Ranger for almost 2 weeks now....

....and every fluid in the truck was still factory fluid, not to mention that the orange/yellow coolant was in my reservoir when the diagram clearly illustrates to use green only. No problem, had every fuid flushed out and refilled, and truck is in great mechanical shape!

Gas mileage definitely not what I expected. My G8 gets way better gas mileage.

I did notice that the coolant reservoir doesn't seem to be at the cold fill level. I went to a nearby dealrship and bought the Motorcraft green coolant which was not pre-mixed. I told the parts guy that all I need to do is just add a little to the reservoir, and he said it is ok to add just the coolant (no water) to get it up to the cold fill level. I don't know, but I am hesitant to do that. Would it really cause any problems?

Do you think the "pure" water from those Sparkletts drums here at the office would be ok or should I just go find some distilled water?

It could be b/c you have the 4.0, not sure. I know these trucks up to 01 or 02 use green according to everything I have read, plus the diagram is printed all over the underhood to use green.

actually.... water is not just water. Fords use a very soft aluminum and "hard" water can actually cause it to detieorate and also can cause electrosis. It is better to use distilled water.

Yeah, distilled water only and as far as I know you can use either green or yellow, just not orange. Not sure why this is though.

although i wouldnt reccomend mixing, or straying from the reccomemnded fluid, color isnt really all that important, they make universal... just some food for though
