Default 2005 and 2006 engines compatible?

My 2005 3.0 ranger threw a rod and now i need to replace the engine. I found a 2006 3.0 for a good price but am not sure if these are compatible?

Also, do i need any special tools to do an engine swap? I have all the basics and an engine lift.

they are interchangeable, the only special tool you may need would be getting the fan off, you can buy the tool or if you have access to a air tools you can use an air chisel to just pop it right off. It should only take about a day to do the swap

I do not have access to air tools. I will look and see what kind of tool I need in the Chilton's manual. Ive never done an engine swap before, any tips or tricks when it comes to a ranger? I cant really find much info online, that is geared specifically for a ranger.

ok thanks!! im a little nervous as this is my first engine swap. Really this is going to be the extent of me being a mechanic hahaha. Never done ANYTHING like this before. We'll see how it turns out!

Picked up a Chilton's today, seems pretty black and white, but things are never as easy as they seem.

somethings a lot of people forget to disconnect would be the engine ground strap. besides if you for get to pull something off, its no biggie just make sure you remove the engine slowly so that you dont jerk nothing out of its respectable position

hells yeah! I rather use a fork lift. Do you have a hole cut in 1 or both of the forks? You'll need it to keep the chain from sliding...
