Question tuning up ford ranger

I am in the process of going to use tune up in a can just to clean the engine a little bit. Does it matter what vacuum hose I put it in? There are two little hoses that are connected to the top of the manifold and two other little hoses that are connected to this little black plastic piece on the front of the manifold?

Also I hear a high pitch whistling sound from the engine when it is running and I have the hood open? Could this be a bad leaky hose?

thanks!!

Do you mean Seafoam? I've never tried it myself but I have heard that it's great! One of the best places is the vacuum fitting at the brake booster, carefully remove it from the brake booster and pour the cleaner into that elbow piece.

Exclamation Re: tuning up ford ranger

hey so here is the picture of my engine drivers side. Do you mean the hose where it connects to the manifold and then back to the brakes? Also which end to I put the cleaner in? the manifold end or the other end? I'm assuming the hose that you are talking about is where the yellow arrow is..? On the can it says to disconnect it from the engine and pour it in there?

thanks for your help!!

Yep, that's it. Pour it into the booster end, right where your arrow is. 1/3 in there, 1/3 into your oil filler tube, and 1/3 into the gas tank.

Question Re: tuning up ford ranger

ok well on the can it says to pull the vaccum hose off of the engine part and spray the stuff in that hose. Also it really isn't a liquid it's a spray tin can kind of. it's called tune-up in a can. (lol) It says to disconnect the vaccum hose from the engine and spray it in there...? doesn't really make sense does it? Any ideas?

thanks

It's best done soon before an oil/filter change. Like within a week say.

Oh so you've already got some stuff you're usin. Yes what you said makes sense. The vacuum will suck it in. Meter it out according to how your engine responds to it. Probably damn near the same stuff.

ok so it would make sense to disconnect the hose from the engine manifold and spray it into that hose that runs into the brake booster? like the arrow in my picture?

NO, you want it to go into the engine, not the brake booster!

ya that's what I thought but the stupid can says disconnect the vacuum hose from the engine..? so I'll diconnect the hose from the brake booster and do it into the engine since that makes way more sense. lol

as in disconnect the hose from the engine at the booster.
Guess the can could have read better huh?

You said you hear a whistling noise.
Can you locate it?

alright so I put the stuff into my ranger after stalling it the first time when I disconnected the brake hose. (lol) It didn't seem to do much to my idling issue and there was no smoke which is a good thing so everything seemed to go well.

thanks for all your help!!!

If your idle is not steady, meaning it seems almost like a misfire then try cleaning the IAC. This also could be contributing to the whining noise you hear. Mine was the same way until i cleaned it. Search on here there is a how-to
