Flex Fuel or not?
Ok, so my '01 Ranger has a 3.0, the way i understand it is that if the 8th letter in your vin is a "V" then it is flex fuel (mine is a "U"). Is this correct and is there any ranger 3.0's with flex fuel with a "U" then. I ask because my truck also has the flex fuel symbol on the tailgate. [IMG] [/IMG]
I ve searched but not found a direct answer. Just curious if the sticker is there is there a posibility it is flex, and can you tell by looking in the engine bay?

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
Isn't the FFV symbol usually next to the Ford oval and not under it? Someone could have just stuck a FFV decal on their truck!

Now you mention it I think it is beside. The gas cap should say E85/Gasoline on there.

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
Wow ok, so definatly don't have the yellow cap, and it is underneath, thanks! Its kinda strange thats its on there at all though. Im guessing then that the dealer had to have put it there. Im probably the third owner and i know the second didnt do it and the first couldnt have had the truck for long, seems like if the dealer did that it would have been false advertising...
Well im going to take that thing of then! Thanks for the pics!

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
Flex fuel is with the sticker. I had one on my 00 model Ranger. If your vin has a v for the 10th digit it's a flex fuel.

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
Honestly, who would think having a FFV is cool? I'm not saying that they're not cool, neither here nor there, lol. I guess it's kind of like those stupid "limited edition" badges that you can buy in the auto dept. at Walmart!

I hate flex fuel. The suck more gas than regular gas. I run straight ethanol.

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
I have a buddy that says Flex fuel sucks, either run only on gas or run only on ethanol, but what if you can't find a gas station that has ethanol, hmm?

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
You can run any mixture up to 85% ethanol in a flex fuel equipped vehicle.
They have a fuel composition sensor on the fuel line that will give the PCM a reading so that it can make timing adjustments and tell the O2 sensors how to read a clean burn from the different fuel concentration. Beyond that the only difference is the material that the fuel system and certain emission system components are made of to handle the more volatile ethanol . The engine itself is not any different.

Re: Flex Fuel or not?
My truck doesn't have the sticker of the yellow gas cap. I found out mine was flex fuel on the fuel door. I was just fueling up one day and looked down and there it was. I don't use it nor will I.
