Oh I can drive it. It LOVES going down the road. It just hates when i'm not on the throttle. It'd be great if it was a drag truck, but it's not.

It actually hasn't died on me yet, and i've got my fingers crossed it won't die at any lights until I can get it fixed. For now i'm just hitting the back roads til I can figure out the problem.

I'm glad it's the weekend so I have some time to take care of this.

Alright guys, I think I have this figured out.

I noticed that the idle dips, and raises with the cycle of the A/C compressor. The A/C compressor is putting a load on the engine, so the IAC is trying to adjust the idle to compensate, but if it's faulty, then it's gonna let the idle drop. Correct?

Actually, it is suppose to drop. That year model truck, or any for that year, did NOT have an electrical system that could compensate for the load that quik so there is a noticable change in idle speed. I wouldnt worried about it, unless you start seeing performance issues.

I've posted a few threads on this problem, so I can't remember which one this is, but for the second time, the idle issue is fixed (Brand new IAC). Truck ran great today. Hopefully it stays that way.

Me too. I still have to address a few other things, but at least she's holding a steady idle.

Well, I still haven't fixed the problem. She's been holding 750 RPM at most stops, but today at a stoplight, she started to rev up on her own again. She went to about 2K RPMs and steadied out. I tried shutting the A/C off, but that didn't make a difference at all. The truck has a new IAC, so there has to be something else. I cleaned the throttle body back in October, so I don't think that could be it. I still might take a look to see if the throttle sticks. Could it be the throttle positioning sensor acting up? Could the computer still be trying to learn the idle strategy? The 3.0 has a bare minimum of vacuum lines to check, and I didn't notice any leaks. Same with the PCV elbow on the Valve cover. I'll probably check again tonight for leaks. All suggestions are greatly appreciated, especially those that get this problem solved.

I had similar problems with a 98 Ford Contour. Turned out to be a faulty MAF sensor, it would cause surges of power at idle and during drive. At first I thought I was going to drop my tranny because it would surge sometimes when I was at just the proper RPM for it to want to downshift (automatic obv), and then shift back to up real quickly. Quite jolting.

Yea, it's not fun at all.

I'm gonna play this one by ear, because I thought about it, and the truck was idling fine at all the other stop lights. There may be a chance I had my foot halfway on both pedals. I'm not too sure on that, but I won't rule it out. So we'll see if it does it again to me.
