I just bought a ranger too, and the belt driven fan really sucks, I will be putting a electric one soon too.

I will recomend you to tune up the engine first to recover the lost STOCK Horsepower , I bought a LUCAS fuel injector cleaner, I noticed better throttle response after a few hours, also changing the spark plugs and spark wires also helps if yours are faulty, the reality is that you dont know how the previous owner took care of his ranger. New Airfilter is a must.

Mine had the oil changed by the dealer, but I will change the sparkplugs and upgrade the wires too, I plan to add some performance parts in the future and good spark plug wires help.

All this things will help recover the stock HP, and from there you can start with an easy mod (air intake box mod with a K&N filter) I did a different mod to mine but the box mod works too.

the electric fans are real easy i have them on my truck, i have a 16" puller and a 10" pusher on the front and although it is a little noisy outside the truck it does relenquish some of the ponies taken by the stock clutch driven fan, also you can do the throttle cable mod which really only tightens the cable so there is no slack in the pedal, it doesn't give you more power but it does increase throttle response. The airbox mod is really only going to make the intake suck louder and maybe increase power .5% overall, if you are looking for more off the line grunt then change the rear end gears. other than that the only real way to get a ton of power is to either look at building a supercharged stroker motor, or drop in a 5.0 out of an explorer... hope this helps/

oh you can change the muffler out until you can afford a catback system

headers will work a little jba makes a real nice set, and the fans all you need to do is go to the parts store and pick up the fans then i got a thermostat controller, which controls when the fans come on based on engine temp and the one i got also works for the a/c, the wiring is easy 1 wire to battery, one wire to switched 12 v 1 wire to ground, and the other 2 wires hook to the fans and ground the fans w/ the relay ground, the most you may have to do is change out the fusible link that comes with it because mine melted 3 fuses in 4 days.

Do you recommend your fan mod over the taurus e-fan mod that is in the how-to section? Having a push fan would be nice! esp out here in the desert. Do you notice any headlight dimming etc running two fans? And I suppose they can be wired to manual switches. Im not a real electric guru.

its all up to you which mod you do, and honestly you could still wire a second fan in along w/ the taurus fan, there is a very slight dimming every so often, at night w/ radio, lights and a/c running but other than that no i don't notice it...

Hmm. I think I would end up running a second smaller battery someday anyway since I want to eventually run 3 HIDs on a tube bumper, an oil cooler possibly with its own fan, and maybe a seperate tranny cooler which will need a fan (I want to put it in the bedside. Saw it on Jesse James Silverado 1500 prerunner done by SDHQ)

Thanks
